These are specific Blu-ray drives that can read 4K data but do not strictly enforce the AACS 2.0 copy protection that usually blocks computers from accessing the disc. The gold standard for compatibility is LibreDrive support—a mode that allows software to access the data directly without interference from the drive's locked-down firmware.

1. After downloading and installing HandBrake, open it on your computer.

You have two ways to load 4K Blu-rays: Click Folder or File, or drag and drag the 4K Blu-ray to the interface.

2. Choose MP4 format from the provided MP4, MKV, and WebM format.

Part 4. How to Keep Dolby Atmos and HDR Metadata

In 2026, simply "upscaling" to 4K isn't enough. To truly replicate the disc experience on your Plex or media server, you must preserve the HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Object-Based Audio metadata. Here is how I ensure a perfect, "remux-quality" rip.

1. Audio: Don't Settle for Stereo (Atmos & DTS:X)

If you are ripping a 4K disc, you likely want to keep the Dolby Atmos or DTS:X tracks. Most standard converters will "downmix" these into flat 5.1 or even stereo files, destroying the spatial audio.
